About

Research at the frontier of energy & electronic devices

NEEDLAB is a multidisciplinary research group operating at the intersection of materials science, device physics, electrical engineering, and sustainable energy.

Our mission is to design self-powered systems that sense, store, and harvest energy, paving the way toward a more sustainable future.

Novel Electronic & Energy Devices Laboratory, since 2017.

Research

Research directions

Six interlocking directions — from materials up to systems — unified by one goal: devices that power themselves.

Energy Harvesting Systems

We harvest ambient mechanical energy—from human motion, vibrations, and waves—and convert it into useful electrical power. Furthermore, we design high-efficiency circuitry to optimize the transmission and management of this energy.

Flexible Energy Storage

High-density, stretchable supercapacitors and batteries for next-generation wearable systems.

Self-Powered Sensors

Battery-free tactile, motion, and environmental sensors for IoT, healthcare, and soft robotics.

Functional Nanomaterials

MXenes, 2D materials, and nanostructured electrodes engineered from the atom up.

Wearable Electronics

Skin-conformal electronics and self-charging power units for continuous, untethered operation.

AI-Guided Discovery

Machine learning to accelerate the design and screening of new energy materials.
